Children and flowers

I took this picture last night, just after getting home from work. It's a chance seedling of a species geranium; I think it's geranium lancastriense. A few minutes later, inside fixing dinner, I looked out just in time to see one of the neighborhood children bending down to pick it. What upset me most was seeing her walking away from the plant, tearing the petals off the flower and throwing them away. There are still plenty of buds on the plant. I hope she picks on someone elses yard next time, and leaves my buds alone.  I don't very often pick flowers: the idea of a cutting garden has never appealed to me. I prefer them left on the plant, in the ground or in pots, and just watching them grow.
