EARTH Magazine: Hazardous Living: Italian seismologists on trial for manslaughter

EARTH Magazine: Hazardous Living: Italian seismologists on trial for manslaughter:

The only thing that surprises me about this story is that it happens to be in Italy, not the USA. The general public is increasingly unwilling to accept that sometimes bad things just happen. They want someone [else] to be at fault and for that someone [else] to pay. Doctors are supposed to be infallible. If someone's child is born with a defect or abnormality, it must be the doctor's fault, and they must pay. If someone drowned in the neighbors pool, than that neighbor must be liable. If I trip walking down the sidewalk, it must be property owners fault, not mine. Everyone's suing everyone else, and the trial lawyers are laughing all the way to the bank.
Like the lawyers here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix#.22Throttling.22. They went home with $2.5 million, while the 'class' members got a month's free service upgrade.
