Numbers, it is said, don't lie. And this fact about medicare is a very scary truth.
The costs and benefits of Medicare.
Medicare was created for all the right reasons. But without enough thought to the full execution of it. We expect to live longer lives than our parents and grandparents did. But who pays the [medical] bill[s] for that long life? Should our children be expected to pay for ever more costly medical treatments, for everyone lucky enough to reach the magic age of medicare?
Or is it time to consider a basic shift. To guarantee a minimum coverage to everyone: basic medical care, with annual checkups, and all the free preventive care a person needs. But not to guarantee every procedure available to everyone for as long as they live.
