Petition: Don’t set us back half a century! Give stay-at-home moms credit. | Change.org

Nope, can't really get behind this notion.
I think the person who's going to have to provide the money to pay the credit card account should have say-so. Because if the card company issues to just the non-working spouse, what guarantee of payment do they have? Yes, the person posting this petition sounds like a reasonable person, one who would manage the bills, not run up too many charges. But there are other kinds of people. Ones who would charge away, and then not worry about how the bill is going to be paid. The person who provides the money to pay the bill should have to agree to open a charge account. Women's rights doesn't mean we can have it both ways. If we choose to work, to have an income, well then yes, we should have the right to apply for credit in our own name. [and we should also have access to the same pay levels as men, but that's a separate issue].
If we choose to stay at home, then there will be some things we have to give up. And one of those just might be the right to apply for individual credit when we have no individual income. Get your significant other to apply for a joint account.
