North Dakota Voters Consider Ending Property Tax - NYTimes.com
North Dakota is considering eliminating property taxes.
I have an alternate proposal, in two parts.
1. Property value for tax purposes shall be set at the time of purchase of your home, for your primary residence. If property 'values' rise in your area, or if you make improvements to your home, the taxable value of your home will not change.
2. No more tax deduction for mortgage interest. Not a good idea to begin with, and much evidence that it benefits only the upper classes and real estate brokers.
