This is why the 'Free Enterprise' system should not apply to services that should be geared towards the 'public good'. Profit, in a business, is a good thing. But there are many parts of a social system that do not serve the public when they are run as a business. Education, prisons, maintenance of our infrastructure, and public utilities. If these things are converted to private business models, the public loses. Because the business managers are then charged with doing their best to maximize profits, not with doing what is best for the public.
