Birther Joke in Macy's Ad Sparks Petition to Have Donald Trump Fired - Today's News: Our Take | TVGuide.com

MoveOn.org has started an online petition asking Macy's to "Dump Trump" as a spokesperson after it was reported that the Celebrity Apprentice host makes a birther joke in an upcoming Christmas ad for the department store. According to The New York Times, Trump reportedly asks Edmund Gwenn, who played Kris Kringle in Miracle on 34th Street, whether he is really Santa Claus and tugs on his beard.

My take:

As much as I dislike Donald Trump and everything he stands for, this is not right. It's a quite well known trope for someone to tweak Santa's beard and ask if he really is Santa. Unfortunate juxtaposition here, but unless he follows the tweak by asking to see a birth certificate? Then it's not a birther joke.  As for those who don't like his association with Macy's? Just don't buy his stuff.
On the other hand: The Donald removed but has not yet retracted his call for revolution after the election didn't go his way. I suggest he should be investigated and questioned for advocating violent overthrow of the government.
